Intérêt d’une prise en charge en binôme sur les compétences communicationnelles de patients aphasiques : étude de cas

Abstract : The literature emphasizes the need for speech pathologists to develop new psychosocial and environmental approaches to promote the participation of people with aphasia. Currently, rehabilitation is mainly individual or in groups; these practices involve various therapeutic processes. Few language therapies are carried out with pairs of patients and it seems there is no research on this subject. Thus we chose to experiment working with pairs of moderately aphasic patients. The purpose of this experiment is to study the interactions between peers in a dyad; the dyad being the minimum social unit. We question whether working with pairs may constitute a relevant approach to improve the communication skills of aphasic patients. We also wish to evaluate its possible complementarity with individual and group sessions. We developed a therapy program focused on the communication skills of two aphasic patients; the program includes coopera! tive and tutoring interactions between patients. The results suggest that working in pairs helps improve communication skills, however other factors, apart from working in pairs, can influence communication progress and may have affected our findings. This pragmatic approach allowed us to observe pair interactions within the dyad and our clinical analysis aims to highlight the specifics of working with pairs of patients and in particular the implementation conditions.
