La collaboration entre médecins généralistes et pharmaciens d'officine autour de la prescription médicamenteuse : enquête réalisée auprès de pharmaciens d'officine dans le sud des Landes

Abstract : Context: Medication is a real problem in France. The HPST law envisages cooperation between healthcare professionals and redefines the role of pharmacists. Objective: To evaluate the collaboration between retail pharmacists and general practitioners. Methodology: 14 pharmacies from the Landes area filled out a listing of telephone calls with general practitioners over a 1-month period, which allowed specification of the reason for the calls, the answers given and the general feeling during the exchanges. Results: 185 calls were included. The 162 outgoing calls concerned: missing products (44%); a confirmation of dosage (25%); requests for an advance of medication (16%); and problems with prescriptions linked to narcotics (4%) or to generic medications (2%). The reasons for the 23 incoming calls were: to confirm treatments prescribed (26%); to request information about medical devices or about availability of galenic forms (13%); to discuss equivalent treatments (8.7%); and to ask a pharmacist to provide a service for a patient (8.7%) 27 medical errors were averted. 68% of the calls were described as pleasant and 13% as unpleasant. 24.9% of calls lead to a cooperation, most often on an administrative level. Only one call sought the expertise of the pharmacist and his knowledge of the patient. Conclusion: General practitioners rarely refer to pharmacists as medication experts and pharmacists claim a role that they must legitimize, as much on the level of their training and responsibilities as on the level of their reputation to distract from the fact that they are also retailers.
