Le vécu de l’épisiotomie, du post-partum immédiat à 6 mois de l’accouchement

Abstract : Objective The purpose of this study is to evaluate the consequences of episiotomy on the women’s everyday life and the experiences they have in the immediate postpartum period to 6 months of delivery and to assess the impact of episiotomy in the desire of a future pregnancy. Methods This prospective study was conducted on April 14th 2014 to January 31st 2015 in three differents maternity units and was conducted among women who have an episiotomy for the first time. Their experience has been evaluated in three times: in immediate postpartum, at three months and six months of delivery. Results 43 women were followed during 6 months. The experience of episiotomy is negative in immediate postpartum and improves over time. Some predictors of a bad experience have been identified as a bad experience of childbirth, a painful episiotomy and a lack of information. The episiotomy has no impact on the desire for a future pregnancy for 93% of the sample. The role of the midwife seems essential in improving the experience of episiotomy.
