L’atelier cuisine, un support dans la prise en charge en médecine générale des patients en situation médico-sociale complexe en quartier populaire ? Étude qualitative réalisée entre décembre 2014 et juillet 2015

Abstract : Introduction: Ensuring proper health care for patients from lower socioeconomic groups in general medical practice is often difficult because of the number of encountered diseases, social barriers and time constraints. A strong doctor-patient relationship is essential in order to maximise the understanding of a patients health care needs. An awareness of external factors or 'interfaces' that can impact a patients health, can allow the patient themselves, to also act as a 'partner' in their own health care. Objective: To explore the doctor-patient experience during cooking workshops at a health care center. Method: A qualitative study using a phenomenological approach with a triangulation of collection methods including 3 participating observations, 22 semi-directed interviews and targeted sampling of doctors and patients from 3 cooking workshops. Two researchers conducted the analysis using a method approved by the CIL. Results: The cooking workshop offered an informal setting for the doctor-patient relationship and improved their mutual understanding, even for those who reported discomfort. Both doctors and patients were learning together. The workshops improved the self-esteem of the patients and provided them with an opportunity to socialise with one another. Overall it was recognised as a complement to the management of patient health care. Conclusion: Due to the improvement in the doctor-patient relationship as a result of the informal setting of the cooking workshops, and the opportunity for the patients to socialise with one another, a more comprehensive approach to patient health care was enabled.
