Variation angulaire entre le profil d'émergence dentaire et le profil gingival des dents antérieures maxillaires : étude expérimentale

Abstract : Summary: The emergence profile has been acknowledged for having a key role in the integration of biological and aesthetic prostheses. However, today few scientific studies can be found in the literature on this topic. Objective: To study angular variations between dental emergence profil and gingival profil in order to know if Abrams’ gull wings theory is reliable. Material and Method: We collected the patient tomography DICOM data and a plaster model of their jaw that we scanned with a NobelProcera 2G scanner. Thanks to the NobelClinician software’s SmartFusion technology, we were able to match the ensemble. From there, with the software’s tools, we calculated two angles, one representing the gingival profile, the other representing the dental emergence profile. If the theory were to be correct, we should find close value angles. Results: A total of 72 anterior teeth were studied. We obtained an average of 82.71 ° for the dental emergence profile and an average of 130.27 ° for the gingival profile. The Student’s t-test show a significant difference (p < 0,0001). Conclusion: Within the limits of the study, we can say the symmetry theory between the two profiles doesn’t represent the clinical reality.
