Traitement et valorisation de la collection Vésignié par l'étude de l'art mobilier des Combarelles II : processus et méthodes de relevés des gravures préhistoriques sur support lithique et osseux

Abstract : The Magdalenian period (17.000-12.000) is the height of Palaeo lithic art. The middle and recent Magdalenian periods are marked by paintings and sculptures on the rock faces of caves and small artefacts. This art form can be found in the South-west or France ("Font de Gaume'', "Combarelles" and "Rouffïgnac"), in the Pyrenees (Niaux) and in Northern Spain ("Altamira"). The Louis Vésignié Collection coming from excavations undertaken by Emile Rivière in the Combarelles area (1892-1894) provides small artefacts in stone and bone. The engraved stones are unique in character because never berore studied. They presently constitute the only example of artefacts in stone found in the Combarelles area. Using different analytical techniques (microscope. petrography), we have presented the examination of the stone materials used as support. The shoulder-blade has been the abject an animal study. The use of different methods of observation and photographic techniques (microscope macrophotography. computer imagery) has enabled us to discover the engravings and incisions on these stones. All these results have enabled us to identify) the nature of the stones and their supposed origin . The readings have been used to study) the traces left and to compare the possible designs with those of the walls of the Combarelles cave.
