Place de la réalité virtuelle dans la prise en charge de la douleur du syndrome douloureux régional complexe en milieu pédiatrique : revue de littérature

Abstract : The Complex Regional Pain Syndroms (CRPS), once known as reflex sympathetic dystrophy are ill-understood and frequently unrecognized pathologies, particularly among the child population. The chronicity of pain stimulates the sympathetic and central nervous system, which is the cause of vasomotor, trophic, sensitive and motor disorders, stimulation activated by phenomena of central and peripheral consciousness-raisings. The diversity of clinic signs encountered lead to a multiplication of existant treatments. The population aimed by these treatments is generally adult and its efficacy is not or lightly proved when the subject is a child. Goal of most of them is analgesia and do not take in account the cortical reorganization involved in the pain perpetuation. Regarding its foreseen therapeutic possibilities, virtual reality represents a new way of study. Its definition is based by the accomplishment of sensory, motor and cognitive activities in a virtual environment. The purpose of this publication is to determine if the use of virtual reality by a child affected with a SDRC allows a decrease of the pain during the immersion in the virtual environment and if this analgesia can be portable in patient’s daily life.
