Utilisation de la toxine botulique dans le traitement du bruxisme

Abstract : Treating bruxism can be complex for dentists, and they sometimes face therapeutic failure when using traditional treatments. We have shown through a literature review and a case report that injections of botulinum toxin into the jaw muscles can serve as a therapeutic solution for the treatment of bruxism. Botulinum toxin is a second-line therapy when other treatments (splint, physical therapy, pharmacology…) did not yield positive outcomes: dentists will refer their patient to a specialist doctor who will proceed with the injections. This results in a decrease in muscular contraction and muscle pain, with very little or no side effects. These injections must be repeated approximately every four months as the action of botulinum toxin is limited in time.
