Regards locaux sur la filière d'huile de palme costaricaine : les plantations de palmiers à huile dans la région Sud-Pacifique du Costa-Rica et leurs enjeux socio-économico-environnementaux

Abstract : The palm-oil tree plantations in the south-Pacific region of Costa Rica present many socioeconomic and environmental issues specific to this territory, with its politics, inhabitants, their representations and their singular practices. Against a western tendency to stigmatize this productive sector for its negative impacts, this study represents an opportunity to face a social and territorial reality under the "neutral" point of view of the investigator learner in human and social sciences. Through a survey carried out with actors of the productive chain, as well as public and private organizations willing to tell us their position concerning the plantations, this work tends to draw a frame of the current existing relations. In a moment of crisis lived by the producers of this agricultural sector, it is also interesting to see which local alternatives are implemented, in particular by "small-producers" and to question their sustainability.
