Les intoxications du jeune enfant aux produits domestiques : rôle du pharmacien d'officine

Abstract : Rooms of our houses are filled with household products which can cause poisonings. The pediatric population is the first to be concerned by these accidents. In France, datas of « centres antipoison » revealed that the household and cosmetic products are the second cause of poisoning of the child at home. Because of their closeness to the population, pharmacists have to play a role in the fight against domestic poisonings by giving advices and informations to parents and children. Moreover, pharmacists have to assure, sometimes, a first-aid role in emergency situations, therefore, the knowledge of various types of poisoning with household products turns out to be an advantage for the profession. This thesis aims to define the typologies of poisonings of the pediatric population and to put forward the role of the pharmacist as the central healthcare professional in terms of analysis, prevention, first gestures to be brought before the orientation to the hospital. At first, we presented the main causes of pediatric poisonings with household products. Secondly, we looked at the role a pharmacist could play in these poisonings. Finally, we analyzed the answer brought by patients in a survey about their habits towards the household products and their opinion on the role of the pharmacist in these poisonings.
