Études paléoenvironnementale et paléoclimatique à partir de restes d’insectes retrouvés dans le guano de Nouvelle-Calédonie : caractérisation, taxonomie et recherches méthodologiques

Abstract : Archaeoentomology and palaeoentomology are young science whose methods are derived from those of Quaternary entomology, they finding applications in various archaeological fields. The ecological preferences or requirements of many taxa make its of indicators of change througout abiotic or biotic factors resulting from human or climatic interventions. This discipline, which is mainly used in temperate environments, is usually used on sediments from archaeological sites. This study made it possible to highlight the potential of this type of study in New Caledonia, and also a new type of entomological archive: guano. From taxonomic, statistical, molecular and infrared spectroscopic methods conducted on several guano sample of diurnal salanganes (Collocalia spodiopygia) and many species of nocturnal microchiroptera, dating from 187 to 2012, we present the diet composition of the predators ; as well as the sensitivities of various taxa of the diet, in the face of climatic fluctuations imput to ENSO Mode. In order to test the reliability and the potential of this study, the data were compared with the meteorological, isotopic and palynological indications obtained in the framework of the Guacamole- CAID projects. Finally, a preliminary analysis was carried out on the fossil guano of the Tabon Cave (Philippines), dating from 38 Ka, in order to observe the potential of this study for the older periods.
