Problématiques liées au calcul de la dose efficace engagée lors d’une contamination interne digestive par une particule de Cobalt 60 en centrale nucléaire de production d’électricité

Abstract : In nuclear power plant (NPP), on the occasion of an occupational digestive intake of Cobalt 60 hot particle, the biokinetic and dosimetric models may be responsible for a high committed effective dose. However experimental studies suggest a lower value for the gastrointestinal absorption factor (f1) than estimated using the ICRP models. The primary objective of this study is to evaluate an experimental gastrointestinal absorption factor f1 value in case of a digestive incorporation of a Cobalt 60 hot particle. The secondary objective is to submit an experimental dose coefficient when the f1 value is near zero. 14 contamination cases by ingestion, distributed on multiple french NPP, were studied, including 5 cases with measurements of urine and faecal samples. Activity measurements of the uptake component were statistically different from those predicted by the models (p < 0,05). The experimental f1 calculation were at least a hundred times lower than the theoretical gastrointestinal absorption factor for the insoluble oxides of cobalt compounds (5 x 10−2) ; the values were below (1 x 10−4). Those results allow us to suggest a dose coefficient of 1,6 x 10−9 Sv.Bq−1 in this particular case of a hot particle. Those results would suggest an inadequacy between the ICRP models and experimental data for Cobalt 60 hot particles encountered in NPP. Further studies would be necessary in order to strengthen our conclusion. It would be desirable to carry out urine analysis in order to proceed the calculation of an experimental f1 value.
