Suicide après implantation pour stimulation cérébrale profonde des noyaux subthalamiques dans la maladie de Parkinson

Abstract : Objectives: To determine the suicide rate and suicidal attempt rate for patients with a parkinson disease who had a surgery for deep brain stimulation of the subthalamic nucleus, and find some risk factors for these patients. Method: 534 patients who had a surgery were included in a retrospective, monocenter study. Suicides and suicide attempts were collected by consulting their medical reports. Suicidal patients were compared to control patients, depending on gender, age and year of surgery. Results: Suicidal rate was 0.75% (4/534), suicidal attempts rate was 4.11% (22/534). During the first year after surgery, the standardised mortality ratio for suicide was 8.1. 26 patients who showed suicidal behavior were compared to 52 controls. Suicidal behavior were associated with onset of illness involving the left side of the body ; personnal history of psychosis, suicidal attempt or suicidal ideation.
