Permanence des soins ambulatoires en Essonne : attitude de la population face à un problème de santé urgent et sa connaissance du système de permanence des soins

Abstract : Introduction: the incidence of hospital emergencies increases. After-hours care (AHC) organization is little known to the French. The objective was to assess the Essonians’attitude to an urgent non-vital health problem during the after-hours care and their knowlegde of the AHC organization especially after an information campaign carried out at the beginning of 2015 by the Heatlh Regional Agency. Method: observational quantitative descriptive study by questionnaire on Essonians aged over 18 interviewed in public places. Results: 387 questionnaires were collected from July to October 2015. Faced with a hypothetical health problem, attitude was adapted in 46 % and 43 % of cases at week-ends and at night. It was significantly associated with higher age (p=0.004), previous use of SOS Médecins (p=0.001), knowledge of Medical Care Homes (MCH) (p=0.02). An inadequate attitude associated with being a man (p=0.02) or a subject without higher education (p=0.03). 141 subjects presented an urgent real health problem in the last year during the AHC. Emergency services in direct access were the first (37%), followed by Emergency medical assistance (SAMU) (20%), SOS Médecins (19%), firefighters (9%) and MCH (6%). Conclusion: direct recourse to emergency services without prior thelephone regulation remains too important. Public information must be optimized by emphasizing the importance of regulation.
