Travailler la compétence émotionnelle par l'écoute musicale

Abstract : Music seems like an ideal way to allow elementary school pupils to express their feelings, an activity rarely practised by teachers. Listening to music can indeed provoke strong and intense feelings for children and adults alike, but using words to describe how a work of art is resonating with you is a difficult exercise that can improve your understanding of your emotionnal reactions, and improve your communication about those. But organizing an activity like this, unusual for pupils, asks a question : how do you make pupils that are very much used to use reason and precise methods in order to be evaluated understand that the aim is to express their own personal feelings ? We explore this question by trying several ways to organize musical listenings in classes for pupils from 6 to 8 years old, in order to find out what are the best conditions to help them adopt a postion in which they both listen and express their feelings.
