Évaluation de l'intérêt de la supplémentation en zinc dans la prévention des complications chez les patients en dialyse péritonéale : état de l’art

Abstract : In patients with end-stage renal disease, peritoneal dialysis (DP) is an extra-renal purification method using the peritoneum as an exchange membrane. However, the presence of the abdominal PD catheter exposes the patient to the risk of peritonitis, the main complication of the technique. Thus, episodes of peritonitis and the phenomenon of fibrosis, thickening of the peritoneal membrane, shorten the lifetime of the method. In addition, these patients have a sort of immunosuppression and are prone to protein-energy waste. Moreover, zinc is an essential trace element to the organism which possesses immunemodulatory properties. In patients with PD, protein-energy waste and other factors can cause zinc deficiency. Zinc supplementation could correct a pre-existing deficit, normalize immune dysfunction and help these patients fight against bacterial infections. This thesis provides a justification for conducting a zinc supplementation study in PD patients in order to prevent peritonitis and fibrosis.
