L’éveil aux langues , un levier pour la participation orale en maternelle ?

Abstract : This work is situated at the intersection of sociolinguistic studies aimed at characterizing oral interactions in kindergarten and those concerning plurilingual activities. The purpose of this paper is to measure the possible influence of language awakening activities on the oral participation of plurilingual students in a class of MS GS. The discussions during the regrouping times were characterized by a first series of data, before the beginning of the experiment. Changes in speech distribution were measured during and at the end of the language awakening sequence. Comparative data collected at the same time allowed us to characterize the differences in participation between language time in French and in language awakening. The main result is that the oral participation of plurilingual students has increased with the introduction of language awareness activities. However, a causal relationship could not be proven. The main explanation seems to lie in the way the teacher distributes the speech, giving priority to students presented as plurilingual who are considered as expert students in this field.
