Prévention en sécurité routière chez les femmes enceintes et les enfants : évaluation du niveau de connaissance et d’information des professionnels de santé et des parents

Abstract : Introduction: Road safety is a public health problem. Current research is helping to put in place safety devices to reduce the consequences of road accidents. Vulnerable users, such as pregnant women and children, require information to know and use existing devices, thus ensuring optimal prevention. Objective: The objective of the study was to assess the level of knowledge of parents, paediatricians, midwives and gynaecologists-obstetricians regarding road safety for pregnant women and children, as well as the procedures implemented by the professionals health for road safety prevention. Material and method: Three questionnaires containing questions relating to road safety for pregnant women and children were sent to midwives and gynaecologists / obstetricians, paediatricians and parents working or living in Marseille respectively. Résults: The number of returned questionnaires was 38 midwives and gynaecologists, 51 parents and 26 paediatricians. The study showed a good general knowledge but regulatory specific information is still unknown. Conclusion: With regard to health professionals, a lack of knowledge emerged from this study, with perceived gaps in initial training on the subject of road safety. This could explain the low rate of responses: due to a lack of awareness, few professionals feel concerned by road safety prevention. Parents, for their part, felt a lack of information from health professionals. The answers to their questions come mainly from the internet or from their entourage, which leads them to make mistakes when using security devices. Prevention in road safety plays a major role in the consequences of road accidents: a clear explanation of the different safety devices by the health professionals as well as a good application by users would reduce the severity of road accidents.
