Influence de la radiothérapie ORL sur le microbiote buccal : revue systématique de la littérature

Abstract : Head and neck cancers are the fourth most frequent cancers in men and represent 10% of the cancers in France. External radiotherapy is one of the curative treatments for head and neck cancers. It is performed in more than 70% of the cases, alone or in association with chemotherapy. The side effects of head and neck radiation therapy are numerous, they can be hyposialy, osteoradionecrosis, the periodontal disease and the carious disease. The latter are two infectious diseases that involve bacterial species belonging to the oral microbiota and which are responsible for the deterioration of the oral state of the patents. A number of studies have analyzed the impact of external radiation treatment on the oral flora of treated patients. However, to our knowledge, there is currently no systematic review of the effects of radiation therapy on the oral flora in relation to caries and periodontal diseases.
