Évaluation d’un programme d’éducation thérapeutique du patient lombalgique chronique au Centre Hospitalier de Libourne

Abstract : Background: therapeutic patient education (TPE) programs are suggested in case of non-specific chronic low-back pain (LBP) in order to allow the patient to acquire a know-how to return to a near-normal quality of life, to overcome his functional limitations and gradually regain his daily activities despite pain. There are few data in the literature on this type of innovative program. Objective: to determine if there is a change in the level of functional disability after a TPE program for patients with chronic LBP. Méthod: before/after study, without control group, on a sample of patients with non specific chronic LBP who participated in the TPE program of Libourne Hospital, between October 2016 and October 2017. Patients benefited from an educational diagnosis and 10 therapeutic education workshops spread over 3 days Results: mean scores for EIFEL (p = 0.0323) and Dallas daily activities (p = 0.0269) were statically lower than 4 months of the TPE program based on the sample of the 27 studied patients with an average age of 54,4 years. There were no significant reduction in average scores of Quebec, Dallas Leisure activities, Dallas Anxiety/Depression and Dallas Social interest. Conclusion: these results illustrate the interest of a TPE program for patients with chronic LBP. They must be validated after conducting an efficient randomized controlled study.
