Étude pilote : évaluation de l'impact de la restauration des fonctions canines dans la prise en charge du bruxisme

Abstract : Bruxism is a diurnal and/or nocturnal oral parafunction described by unintentional contractions of masticatory muscles besides the physiological function. Bruxism has many origins, including psychosocial (stress), biological and pathophysiological factors. It can lead to functional and aesthetic problems affecting patient’s quality of life. The aim of this work is to propose a protocol in order to estimate the impact of canine guidance restoration. The following results will be evaluated in relation to the only existing cognitive-behavioural therapy for bruxism management. For this study, a simple intra-oral bruxism device was used: the Bruxchecker®. We carried out a study on 9 patients using a newly created detailed protocol to estimate bruxism with Bruxchecker®. The results obtained were analysed to assess the impact of both treatments. We can’t confirm that canine guidance restoration decreases bruxism, however results are in agreement with cognitive-behavioural therapy as a simple and non-invasive means to appreciate self-reeducation and monitoring of patients during their bruxism management.
