États des lieux des personnes en situation de fin de vie et analyse de leur prise en charge aux urgences du Centre-Hospitalier Universitaire de Caen en 2017

Abstract : According to the National End-Of-Life Observatory, 80 % of French citizens would like to spend their lasts hours of life at home. This is the reason why there is so many aids and networks, financed by government’s health insurance and other privates complementary insurance to suit this demand. However, these aids at home are not available during the nights, weekend and holidays, leaving these patients at their own. On the other hand, the Nursing home for elderly who cannot adequately care of themselves are facing the same problems due to personnel shortage and lack of framing in case of medical issues during the nights. For these reasons, there is so many patients with life-limiting conditions who passed away not peacefully in the ED, which is not acceptable. This study make a review about life-ending circumstances and the hospital End-of-life care conducted in the ED of University Hospital of CAEN, during the year of 2017, for inpatient who passed away during their first 7 days of stay in the emergency ward or the short-stay unit.
