Représentations et stratégies des étudiants sages-femmes en Ile-de-France au sujet de leur formation : une étude qualitative

Abstract : Introduction: since several years, national enquiries and dedicated work on student's welfare is at the heart of preoccupation of students and institutions in the medical and paramedical fields. The latest figures show the importance of the psychological suffering which is more and more prevalent amongst medical students. Objectives: the objectives of this study are to explore the representations and the strategies of the mid-wife students who have completed their bachelor degree then outline improvement paths. Methodology: we used the qualitative research method IPA (Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis) by conducting semi-structured interviews with midwifery students from the 4 Ile-de-France schools who completed their bachelor degree. Based on a three-level analysis with double quotation and triangulation of results was performed. This study meets the COREQ 32 criteria. Results: as a result, students are confronted with a loss of reference points related, among other things, to the discovery of the hospital environment, the dual student-professional status generating an extremely intense and offbeat pace of life. After having eventually given up to medicine studies, students appropriate their midwife's studies in order to build up their professional identity and their representations of maieutic throughout the complete duration of their course. This singular training peculiar to medical studies is subject to important emotional movements. The pedagogical and psychological support of the students is essential for the effective progress of their studies and their well-being. Conclusion: a reinforced pedagogical support and the set-up of psychological support of the students via discussion group forum appear to be necessary for the correct progress of midwife's studies and for the training of future professionals in the domain of perinatal.
