Abstract : This research work tackles the influence of gender stereotypes in maths classes, namely how they threaten girls’ mathematical performances. According to these stereotypes, girls would supposedly be “less able to succeed in maths”. The experience we led during this work took shape of a spatial task: CE1 pupils from three different schools had to build geometric shapes with lego bricks. The results revealed that when girls are aware of these widespread ideas, their performances are more limited than those of girls unaware of gender stereotypes.
