Réalité virtuelle en reconditionnement à l’effort : un nouvel outil pour contrer le manque d’observance ?

Résumé : Chronic diseases are still increasing with the major concern of improving the management particularly through the development of non-pharmacological interventions. However, these interventions have two unsolved problems: on the one hand the lack of adherence responsible for the relapse rate and generate significant health costs and on the other hand, the lack of motivation due to the fact that rehabilitation program are perceived as tedious. Among these interventions, exercise retraining programs combined with innovative technologies such as virtual reality (VR) have shown their success in specific populations with chronic diseases. The objective of the present study was to evaluate the feasibility and the benefits of rehabilitation training with HIIT exercise in VR-exergaming on cycle ergometer in subjects with various pathologies. An experimental protocol of 10 synchronized RV training sessions adapted to the ergo-cycle training program spread over 2 and a half months was administered to 12 subjects (versus 12 controls). The analysis of the selected variables (maximum power in watts, rate of perceived exertion (RPE) and pleasure/displeasure) reveals a significant difference for only one of them: the pleasure, suggesting that the HIIT training experience in VR-exergaming is perceived to be the most enjoyable form of training according to the participants. Nevertheless, the other benefits acquired by the VR, despite their statistical non-significance, should be considered, as well as the actual adherence to the protocol (83%) attesting to the relevance of this care.
