Reconnaissance et émancipation : la théorie critique d’Axel Honneth

Abstract : This master thesis discusses the recognition theory of the German philosopher Axel Honneth. Starting from a critical study of his use of the concept of reification, this work wants to understand the integration of this concept in his systemic theory of recognition, and the imbalances it may entail. By a rephrasing of the Hegelian tripartition of recognition into a quadripartition, this study extends to Honneth’ power theory, up to a critical understanding of his moral an emancipatory theory. More broadly, this work studies the inscription of Honneth’ theory inside the Critical theory tradition, and the conceptual tools he’s suggesting to inform it’s fundamentals matters.
