Master Thesis

L'édulcoration dans la traduction pour la jeunesse

Abstract : This thesis is a study of the different reasons that may lead to toning down a children’s book when it is translated into French. This piece of work is based on four books published at different times but all belonging to the Children’s Literature genre : The Adventures of Tom Sawyer (1876), Peter Pan (1911), Ready or Not : An All-American Girl Novel (2005) and Everything, Everything (2015). This thesis highlights the translator’s influence, but also that of publishers, in the decision making that leads to toning down and deleting some passages from a book intended for young readers.
