Agriculteurs, situation de handicap et maintien dans l’emploi et ergothérapie

Abstract : Introduction: In France, with almost 60.000 work injuries per year, agriculture is a dangerous occupation. These work injuries can be more or less serious and be a source of disability. The resulting deficiencies affect the independence and autonomy of agricultural workers. However, agriculture is an occupation of passion; and it is therefore essential to enable the farmer to continue his activity despite the disability. The aim of my study was to know how the occupational therapist, in the process of job maintenance for a farmer with disabilities due to a work injury, could contribute to improve the quality of life of this person. Materials and Methods: To conduct this study, a clinical qualitative approach was chosen. Four farmers with disabilities because of a work injury were interviewed. Results: The results showed that advice on gestures and on adjustments could be given by the occupational therapist in order to improve the support in the return to work. Support from helping peers such as a support group or therapeutic education, conducted in part by an occupational therapist, could also contribute to the improvement the quality of life of farmers with disabilities. Conclusion: The occupational therapist has the necessary skills to act in a process of job maintenance with farmers with disabilities. Occupational therapy support can improve the quality of life of farmers who are victims of a work injury through rehabilitation, counselling, education and adjustment. On the other hand, this support cannot under any circumstances replace multidisciplinary team.
