L'hypnose dans le Service de Santé des Armées : état des lieux

Abstract : Introduction: Knowledge and evidence about the efficacy of hypnosis are expanding for many years. This physiological process possibly induced by medical practitioners is taking an ever growing importance for patient care in the civilian environment. Military health care workers could use hypnosis in many clinical indications but there is no data available. The objective of this study is to produce a comprehensive update on military health care workers applying hypnosis and the domain of application of this discipline in the military range. Patients and methods: In this descriptive study a standardised computerised questionnaire has been transmitted to all the military health care workers by several communication channels. Data collection was carried out from November 1st, 2017 to November 1st, 2018. All military health care workers from the SSA (Service de Santé des Armées) trained for hypnosis were included in our study. Results: 48 questionnaires were analysed. They showed that military health care workers trained in hypnosis were widely distributed. 43.8% were doctors and 56,2% were paramedics. 54.2% were assigned to a military hospital and 41.7% to an army medical centre. All (army) hospitals and more than a third of the army's medical centres had hypnosis-trained staff. Training in hypnosis was mainly followed in private institutes (58.3%) and not payed back (68.8%). The number of training courses has considerably increased in recent years. Conversational hypnosis was by far the most spread technique and trained care workers used hypnosis in many different clinical indications. They confirmed that hypnosis is a useful tool in military caretaking, that training is insufficient and that putting hypnosis into practice is difficult, partly because of ignorance of this discipline. Conclusion: Despite the relatively small number of available practitioners, hypnosis is a valuable discipline for therapy progression in military caretaking. Its efficacy is well-known. Hypnosis should be recognised and hypnosis training should be promoted and supervised. Conversational hypnosis is the widest spread technique. It is easy to learn and it could be taught to all military health care workers.
