La vaccination antigrippale en officine, un défi réalisable ? Étude qualitative sur les représentations des pharmaciens des Alpes-Maritimes

Abstract : Introduction: The coverage rate for the flu vaccination in France is insufficient to effectively protect the population. This is why the social security financing law from December 23, 2016 authorizes the experimentation of pharmacists’ administration of the seasonal flu vaccine.
The objective of our study is to collect pharmacists’ representations regarding influenza vaccination in pharmacy.
Materials and methods: We carried out a qualitative study among pharmacists in the Alpes-Maritimes. We conducted semi-structured individual interviews.
Results: Twelve pharmacists were included in our study. Our work shows that pharmacists are in favor of influenza vaccination and have the knowledge of such an experimentation. It is perceived positively and represents a mean of reaching the vaccine target, fighting against the effects of medical deserts and easing doctors’workloads. They expect that vaccination will valorize their image, improve their multidisciplinary work and bring economic benefits to the society. The concerns raised are based on the material organization and the technical competences as well as the conflict of interest with other aspect of their work it would represent. The pharmacist sees himself as a major actor in the healthcare chain, which he finds poorly coordinated. Fostering multi-professional communication by promoting immunization through consistent and uniform discourse is an idea that emerged from our study.
Conclusion: Public health improvement is a strong goal of pharmacist in providing a relevant public health service aimed to increase influenza vaccination coverage. We should therefore promote shared multi-professional organization of future public health actions in order to improve their efficiency.
