Étude de l’opinion des personnes vivant avec le VIH (PVVIH) sur la prévention primaire du VIH, en particulier sur les campagnes de prévention médiatiques, à La Réunion

Abstract : Introduction: Around 37 million people are living with HIV worldwide. In France, 30 000 people may be unaware of their HIV status, and could be responsible for 60% of new infections. With 40 new contaminations a year, Reunion is also affected by this epidemic, but remains the most preserved island of the zone. The main objective of this study was to gather the opinion of PLHIV, followed at the Félix Guyon University Hospital (Reunion), on the current primary prevention against HIV, in order to help guide and improve future prevention campaigns at the same time, in Reunion. Method: It was an opinion poll, descriptive and cross-sectional, in the form of self-administered questionnaires, conducted for three months, in 2018. Results: 110 patients participated in this study. The most effective modes of communication were television interventions (83%), interventions on the internet and social networks (60%) and human interventions (67% by caregivers, 54% by PLHIV). 70% of patients found that cultural venues were the most appropriate for an HIV prevention campaign. 61% of patients thought that the general population was not sufficiently aware. One third of the patients would have liked to have been made more aware by their doctor. Discussion: This study outlines the main communication supports considered as the most effective by PLHIV of Reunion, and their proposals for improvement of future prevention actions. These results indicate ways to better adapt HIV prevention campaigns in Reunion Island.
