La référence aux modalités dans le texte argumentatif chez les apprenants turcophones du FLE

Abstract : This study seeks to examine differences and similarities between argumentative texts written by Turkish and French university students, particularly in the domain of modalities, in order to better understand the strategies adopted by Turkish learners of French L2 at advanced levels in expressing modality. The analysis is based on the contrastive rhetoric approach as well as the functionalist approach, notably the quaestio model. Results indicate that rhetorical norms learned by students within their respective educational systems lead to differences in terms of length and structure of texts between French and Turkish writers. Advanced learners who are exposed to methodological training overcome these differences. However, organization of discourse remains open to transfers from L1, especially in three types of modality: declarative, deontic and epistemic. This study may lay the groundwork for developing teaching strategies related to argumentative texts and modality.
