Étude de la relation médecin/patient via l’initiation aux groupes Balint chez les internes de 6ème semestre de médecine générale en SASPAS à Bordeaux : analyse qualitative par focus groups et entretiens semi-dirigés

Abstract : Background: lack of training in the doctor-patient relationship is a cause of suffering at work for General Medicine interns. Participating in a Balint group is a teaching method proposed by the University Department of General Medicine. Objective: analysis of the contribution of participation in an initiation to the Balint group, about a “case” stated in a relational problem, in interns in SASPAS, in the last semester of DES of General Medicine. Method: a qualitative study was conducted, by two interns, with all participants in the Balint group. One used semi-structured interviews to interview those who submitted a case, and the other used focus group booklets with those who did not submit a case. The results were analyzed using Nvivo12® QRS software. Results: the study shows that both intern populations found it useful to have participated in the Balint group. Changes in medical practice and their psychological experience of the profession are reported. The individual journey continued beyond the time of the sessions. The group exchange allowed an improvement in listening and a discharge of emotions, even becoming a therapeutic time for some. Discussion: the richness of the study is linked to its realization in two hands, allowing to collect the opinions of all the participants. The Balint method is suitable for learning and deepening the complexity of the doctorpatient relationship. It enables personal progress and appropriation of the mechanisms of reflection. The objectives are to make the carer feel less guilty, to be more serene at work and to help the carer develop his professional identity. Conclusion: the initiation to the Balint groups during the DES of General Medicine, a unique place of exchange between peers, proposes a deepening of the doctor-patient relationship. This sharing of experience allows an improvement in relational competence. Democratization to all internal would be desirable.
