Transfusion sanguine à domicile et médecine générale : intérêt et limites à son développement

Abstract : The opinion of general practitioners regarding the development of home blood transfusion has been barely explored. Their viewpoint on its organization could allow the elaboration of a protocol sheet. A questionnaire was sent by e-mail to general practitioners in Bouches-du-Rhône to assess their practice about transfusions, to question them about the limits to its development at home and to look for the essential elements for the elaboration of a protocol sheet. Two out of 70 doctors had already addressed patients for home blood transfusion. Two other doctors had patients who had been already transfused at home. Only 59 % of respondents thought of using home care services for transfusion in the future. However, 78 % of respondents were interested in a protocol sheet. Home blood transfusion is hardly used by the general practitioners of Bouches-du-Rhône who are not adequately informed of its existence and its organization. Nevertheless, the support of the public authorities and new recommendations should contribute to development of transfusion at home. The establishment of a protocol sheet for general practitioners could contribute to the development of this activity.
