Les langues « maternelles » à l’école

Abstract : The awakening in the linguistic diversity appears in the programs of nursery school and we can reveal in the programs of 2018 a will of the Education to accompany the pupils towards an opening to the world. I thus dealt with the question of the native languages at the school with the aim of developing the representations on the notion of opening in the linguistic and cultural diversity. I thus highlighted a number of hypotheses on the impact that the practice of the awakening in the languages could have. To verify these hypotheses, I began by realizing a first sequence in a class of big section around an album with repetitive structure Le machin in Arab and of various games to get acquainted with the vocabulary and the tones of the language. My second sequence, around the album Les émotions du petit éléphant (also with repetitive structure) in two different languages with the participation of the parents of pupils and also around different games aimed to get the pupils to familiarize themselves with the sounds and vocabulary around the emotions in languages spoken by some comrades enjoy sharing and discovering each other’s cultures and languages; and compare the languages involved. I have also conducted a number of classroom sessions in Grade 5 by having them express their original languages and cultures and through the development of small dialogues to assess the extent to which this approach would be transferable in primary. In order to ask them about their practices and their vision of things I also asked teachers and members of the AFALAC (Association Famille Langue Culture) from whom I was able to retrieve the materials for my sessions. The results showed that the approach to language awakening made it possible to disrupt representations by leading everyone to develop attitudes of tolerance and openness to linguistic and cultural diversity and to increase pupils' interest in languages. Manipulating languages also puts pupils in a situation of reflection, enabling them to acquire skills and develop transferable skills in other disciplines. Nevertheless, these studies have limitations, such as time and educational choices, but also the diversity and number of teachers interviewed and also the results of the afalac surveys that are still being studied.
