Abstract : Background: intimate partner violence (IPV) affects one in ten women. General practitioner (GP) are often the first responders, one in four victims have told them about it. Objectives: to observe whether female victims of IPV would like to be questioned on this subject by GP, to describe the population of female getting seen in victim support structures and the characteristics of their general medical consultation(s) during the past 12 months. Materials and Methods: a descriptive multicentre epidemiological study conducted between May and August 2019 in five departments of the Nouvelle-Aquitaine. The population was composed of adult women victims of IPV who were seen in victim support associations. A self-administered questionnaire of 13 questions was to be completed. Results: 17 associations participated, and 215 questionnaires were analyzed. 86% of the women either wanted or needed the issue of IPV to be broached by the GP and 89% felt that it was part of the GP role to broach the issue. 93% of them had consulted their GP at least once during the past year, mostly for psychological reasons (fatigue 60%, difficulty to sleep 57%, anxiety 52%, prescription of psychotropic drugs 42%). 63% had talked about IPV with a GP, most of them on their own (47%). Despite this, few women were referred to an association by their doctor (12%). Conclusion: female victims handled by associations would like to be questioned for IPV by their doctors and believe that the latter has a full role to play in their care.
