Digitalisation en production pharmaceutique : vers l’industrie 4.0

Abstract : The pharmaceutical industry is a complex environment, constrained by : A competitive environment, where cost optimization is becoming a necessity, A significant and rapidly changing regulatory environment, pushing industrials to anticipate new regulations, A technological context under transformation, with major breakthrough expected in the next decade, that could increase the gap between the top performers and the rest of the pack. In this context, the digital transformation is seen as a big topic by most industrials. 2019 technologies are already delivering, notably on traceability, productivity and quality topics. The pharma 4.0 model is still a distant target, as it describes a vision 10 years in the future, on a technological as well as regulatory perspective. This transformation has major challenges to overcome. To manage this change, a strong leadership is required, one that can provide the necessary resources to succeed. Jobs are expected to evolve significantly, and the skills associated should not come from external resources only. Employee development programs should be created, to help people transition acquire a new skillset. The digital transformation is still a work in progress, and it could be interesting to reevaluate it in 5 years, to see if the gap between top performers and laggers has shorten.
