Connaissances, attitudes et pratiques relatives aux infections sexuellement transmissibles chez les adultes consultant en dispensaire à Mayotte en 2018, CAPIST-Mayotte

Abstract : Introduction: STIs seem prevalent in Mayotte. The aim of this study was to assess the knowledge, attitudes, and practices related to STIs among the adult population consulting in Mayotte health centers. Methods: CAPIST-Mayotte is a transversal study which has been carried out among 210 subjects consulting in four health centers between April and May 2018. An anonymous questionnaire was used to collect socio-demographic datas, knowledge, attitudes and practices related to STIs. Scores of knowledge, opinion on preservatives, and risky sexual behaviour have been calculated. Datas have been analysed in a descriptive, bivariate and multivariate way. Results: main STIs were identified by less than 20 % of the participants, except for HIV (93,8 %). More than a third of participants considered that washing after sexual intercourse and withdrawal method were efficient to prevent STIs. Only half of the participants knew where to get STIs screening. Opinion about preservatives was globally positive. Among sexually active participants, 23,5 % had simultaneous multiple partners during life, 55,5 % never had STIs screening, and 31 % never used preservatives. Conclusion: knowledge about STIs are unequal among adults consulting in health centers. STIs screening should be more visible and accessible. Obstacles to preservative use would be important to seek.
