Une « matière d’infini » : potentialités poétiques, finalité ontologique de la violence chez Jacques Dupin. Pour une approche

Abstract : Jacques Dupin started very early to write poems, but was first published in 1949. His poetry gives us to read violence in each poem, almost at every line: it’s the heart of his expression. Alternatly semantic or syntactic, mineral or physical, both incendiary and sexual, its presence rules JD’s poetry. This aesthetics is partly explainable by historical context: dramatic events of the 2d part of the 20th century strongly influenced artists, notably in poetry and arts. The individual, dramatic experience adds up to the collective one and cannot be silent as JD’s poetry is strongly infused with this traumatic memory. However, even though Dupin’s work was highly influenced by his personal experience, its biographic dimension is not enough to grasp the hole complexity of the poetic implications of his writing. This biographic dimension does not bring about a fully appropriate, adequate answer, and we remain confident that there is a more intellectual, though less immediately intelligible in this "new poetic dimension made up of anger and irreparable". Some textual elements suggest a potential ontology of violence which seems to be a poetic material in itself, entailing an intensification of language in a world in crisis – in this sense, violence could be at the heart of reconnection to alterity.
