La nature sauvage urbaine au regard des citadins : approche socio-spatiale. Application à trois villes de France

Abstract : New environmental and land-use policies are trying to reconsider the place of spontaneous vegetation in cities, in order to develop urban biodiversity and improve quality of life of city dwellers. The differentiated management of green spaces leads to the increase of spontaneous flora in parks and garden, but also in every other public places. Our interviews show that these changes are not without any repercussions on the inhabitant’s perception about “wild nature” in the city, and that it’s hard for them to get used to this model of new urban vegetation. As a result, we tried to discover which factors could influence a better acceptation of spontaneous vegetation, or not, in the public spaces in three French cities: Rennes, Blois and Nuits-Saint-Georges. These territories present very disparate characteristics, but nevertheless one important shared policy: the establishment of a differentiated management of their public spaces. This will allow us to examine whether inhabitant’s perception depends on the municipality’s type of management and its characteristics. The results we present come from a quantitative questionnaire survey, carried out online through the three study sites.
