Le cirque de Saint-Même : (re)découverte d'un refuge en Chartreuse

Abstract : The cirque of Saint-Même is a place of interest. The landscape is attractive and gives the place a sense of shelter. The using habits strengthen this impression. The building of a refuge started in Saint-Même a few years ago. It is correlated to the warming of the alpine valleys. Inhabitants of cities like Chambéry or Grenoble have a need to cool down over the summer. Proximity and freshness mix in the Cirque, which explains its attractivity. But this situation favours conflicting uses between tourists and locals. The summer overcrowding leads to tensions, due to the closeness of farming lands and other activities with a crowd of people unaware of these practices. This corroborates two things: the cirque is at risk of practices that threatens the landscapes and its inner life. Thus, there is a real need for shelter. This will be based upon a precise study of the cirque that is required by the building of the refuge.
