Prévalence et facteurs de risque associés aux infections sexuellement transmissibles à Chlamydia trachomatis à La Réunion

Abstract : Background : Chlamydia trachomatis (Ct) is responsible for a significant number of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) in France and particularly in the French Overseas Territories. The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of Ct in Reunion Island and the risk factors (RF) associated with the infection in 2017 and 2018. Method : We conducted a cross-sectional study in the island's four STI clinics between January 2017 and December 2018. Data were collected from standardized self-questionnaires and biological samples with multiplex PCR analysis in all subjects who visited one of these centres and were screened for Ct. Results : The overall prevalence of Ct in the study population was 8.6% (95% CI 7.7-9.5%). The urogenital prevalence of Ct was higher among minor females (13.2%, 95% CI 9.3-18.1%) and minor homosexual males aged 15-17 years (13.3%, 95% CI 1.6-48.2%). Females, people native from Reunion Island, or with high number of sexual partners in the last year, or co-infected with other STI pathogens were more likely to be infected with Ct. Conclusion : The prevalence of Ct in STI clinics is higher in Reunion Island than in mainland France, especially among minors, indicating the need for STIs prevention, screening and treatment campaigns in the general population and mainly in high school.
