À propos d'une étude descriptive sur l'aide médicale aux populations en OPEX

Abstract : During military operations, the Service de Santé des Armées gives, at the same time as their mission of taking care of the wounded and ill soldiers, Medical Support to the local Populations (MSP). Theses cares can be provided by medical unit named role 1, where prehospital battlefield medicine is provided, or bigger units enriched with surgical and resuscitation capacity named role 2. There are not much data about this MSP activity on role 2. Furthermore, if MSP is designed to cure the local people, it must not be involved in the local health system and keep a non-interference action. We have decided to describe the population seen during the MSP on the medical surgical group of Gao, Mali, and its place in the local health system. With this aim in mind, we have realized a descriptive study on a period from may 22, to July 22 2017. Thanks to this study, we have explored the demographic characteristics of the population, brought to light some medical practices and observed principal met diseases. Also, we have seen the place held by the medical-surgical group in the local health system, and the additional help brought, keeping a non-interference position. Finally, if our work stays retrospective, it will be a support to realize a long-time monitoring for the MSP in operations.
