L’art de communiquer : l’apport de la psychomotricité dans la communication chez les enfants porteurs de Troubles du Spectre de l’Autisme

Abstract : This research paper bases its findings on the study of two children with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) to highlight the resources available to psychomotor therapy in helping these children to better communicate. It starts with the clinical description of the two children, analyses their way of communicating to then focus on the notion of autism. Emphasis on the definition of autism, its diagnostic criteria and multifactorial origins allows for a description of the motor, sensory and cognitive characteristics of children with ASDs. Next, the paper illustrates that communication involves first and foremost the body, and that social skills are paramount to adapt one’s communication style. Finally, stress is put on the concrete tools of psychomotor therapy: they enable psychometrician and patient to better understand each other, express themselves and to adapt, ultimately enabling better communication.
