Mémoire de travail et qualité de vie, évaluation en pré- et post chirurgie éveillée

Abstract : Objective
The main objective of this experimental study is to identify links between deficits in working memory, complaints and health-related quality of life of patients harbouring a diffuse glioma before and after awake surgery.
Material and methods
Working memory was assessed by a specific protocol and patients also completed working memory (WMQ) and quality of life complaints (EORTC-QLQ-C30/BN20) questionnaires. The study population (experimental group) included adults patients harbouring a diffuse glioma assessed before and after surgical resection under similar conditions. Results were compared with those of matched healthy subjects (control group).
Fifteen patients were included over an 8-month period. In the pre-operative phase, 9 scores of the experimental group at the working memory protocol were statistically lower than those of the control group. 6/9 protocol scores were statistically correlated with the WMQ and 4/9 with the EORTC-QLQ-C30/BN20. Approximately 3 months after surgery, 75% of the protocol scores remained stable.
Discussion and conclusion
This study suggests links between working memory deficits, complaints and health-related quality of life of the experimental group.
The working memory assessment protocol and the WMQ appear to be relevant in this population. The EORTC-QLQ-C30/BN20, measuring the impact of the tumour in daily life, could be complemented by other tools in order to reflect the multidimensional concept of quality of life and to provide speech and language rehabilitation tailored to each patient.
