La phase de développement : l’écriture scénaristique et le statut d’auteur dans la production cinématographique et audiovisuelle française

Abstract : The development phase is a key stage in the making of a film or series. In some production companies, a department is dedicated to this phase, headed by the literary director, also known as the director or development manager. In small production companies, this stage is characterized by the monitoring of the authors' writing process and by the search for financing. It is supervised by the producer, who bears responsibility to produce the project, but also has the task of proposing a production framework adjusted to the scriptwriting of the project. Thus, this coaching must enable the author and the producer, in collaboration with the broadcaster or distributor, to determine the broad outlines and the financial means necessary to produce a film or series. Since the New Wave, the status of author-director has predominated in French cinema. Nevertheless, the development of series and television programs has created the need to rethink the status as well as the working conditions and remuneration of authors for cinema and television. Thus, it questions the conditions of the scriptwriting process in a production coaching, but also the status of the author in France.
