Évaluations génétiques en élevage canin : étude de la dysplasie de la hanche et des qualités maternelles

Abstract : Genetic evaluations are a selection technique to improve zootechnical performances in breeding. The Central Canine Society (French Kennel Club) is leading projects to index maternal skills and hip dysplasia HD by breed in dog breeding. The collaboration with Royal Canin and the NeoCare team of the National Veterinary School of Toulouse will allow the sharing of breeding data for the achievement of beta tests and the choice of future models for the development of a total merit index on maternal skills. In addition, the HD results of 6 breeds have already been obtained thanks to GenEval and will be transmitted to breeders with the creation of premium LOF SELECT subscriptions and informative graphics. These ambitious projects generate perspectives such as the launch of a joint thesis with NeoCare or the implementation of other health indexations built from the HD model. Finally, these assessments can be carried out routinely and on a larger scale. It will be necessary to communicate efficiently to aid the compromises linked to the choice of selection goals, the technical understanding of the provided data, the retrieval of reliable performances, the favourable use of indexes and a careful choice of future breeding animals for an optimized selection.
