Injection intra vitréenne de clindamycine dans le traitement des rétinochoroïdites toxoplasmiques : à propos de 9 cas dans le service d’ophtalmologie du CHU de Bordeaux

Abstract : Introduction: toxoplasmic retinochoroiditis (TRC) is the first cause of posterior uveitis in immunocompetent patients. Lots of studies showed efficiency and safety of treatment by intravitreal injection of clindamycin on patients with contraindication, inadequate response or side effects with classic oral therapy. The goal of this study is to describe anatomic and functional results of local treatment by intravitreal injection of clindamycin. Material and method: we made an observational study, retrospective and monocentric at the ophthalmologic center of Bordeaux’s hospital, between December 2017 and January 2020. We analyzed efficiency of treatment on visual acuity, decrease of retinal focus size and macular thickness. Results: 10 eyes of 9 patients were injected. Injections showed an improvement on the 3 criteria; visual acuity go from 1 LogMAR (1,07 +/- 0,77) pre-injection to 0,4 LogMAR (0,43 +/- 0,53) at 6 month, the focus size decrease of 51% and macular thickness decrease of 78m during the follow-up. Conclusion: intravitreal injection of clindamycin are safe and efficient or the treatment of TRC. They offer an alternative in patients with allergies, side effects or inadequate response to classic oral therapy.
