Identification des victimes inhumées sous x, disparition de personnes et inhumation sous x, rôle de l'odontologie

Abstract : Each year in France, 68,000 worrying disappearances are reported. At the same time between 1,000 and 2,000 bodies are buried under X in the absence of any identifying information. Currently, there is a lack of sharing and exchange of information between the different actors. This concerns both the data collected during the discovery of a corpse or during the declaration of the disappearance of a person to the judicial authorities. Forensic dentistry is a major asset in the identification of people. But there is no standardized procedure, no common file allowing this reconciliation. The work of this thesis consisted of a retrospective study of 3 years, from 2016 to 2018 of data at the Medico-Legal Institute of Bordeaux as well as meta-analysis of the literature. This work shows different limits. These relate to files which are numerous and non-standardized, both for ante-mortem and post-mortem data as well as the lack of communication between the departments. France therefore seems to be lagging behind in this area compared to the other countries studied in this thesis. The discussion in this work proposes a solution that would make it possible to obtain a reliable ante-mortem record as well as a standardization of post-mortem data. This ante-mortem file could be more reliable thanks to software which would allow an analysis of the panoramic radiography under the control of the dentist. Once collected, these reliable data would make it possible, through Pierre Fronty’s software application, to obtain a match and no longer have so many victims buried under X. This software, which is currently in the teasing phase, is design to program an ante-mortem digital odontogram from the patient record in order to compare it with the post-mortem record obtained.
