Freinectomie linguale chez le nourrisson : analyse des pratiques professionnelles en chirurgie orale et en odontologie pédiatrique

Abstract : Ankyloglossia is a birth defect associated with a defect in cell apoptosis between the floor of the mouth and the tongue during embryogenesis. It affects 4 to 11% of newborns and can have many consequences for both the infant and the mother. In order to assess the management of this pathology, an analysis of professional practices was carried out at the national level with oral surgeons and practitioners practicing in pediatric dentistry. Among the 92 practitioners who answered the questionnaire, 40.2% of the practitioners had to receive infants in consultation in a context of ankyloglossia. Of these practitioners, 33 used clinical judgment to make a diagnosis. 25 practitioners performed lingual frenectomy in infants while 12 of the practitioners referred their patient to another practitioner. The sedation methods used as well as the surgical technique varied considerably between respondents. Our study demonstrates a lack of consensus in the diagnosis and management of ankyloglossia in newborns. It could be interesting to propose a systematization of the diagnosis and surgical therapy of ankyloglossia in infants in order to facilitate its management by a larger number of practitioners.
